Many researchers believe how you prepare your food may be just as important as the type of food you eat.
Why? Well, the high levels of heat required to grill, bbq or fry foods produce a toxin called glycation end producers (AGEs). AGE’s have been linked to inflammation, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s. Now, while the research on the detrimental effects of these particular cooking methods are still in the early stages, there is a mountain of evidence that suggests eating raw or steamed foods help us to retain the essential nutrients found in food without adding AGEs.[1]
Now let’s be honest, bbqing and grilling food does make for super delicious food, so absolutely enjoy them, but where you can - when you have a choice around food preparation, try as often as you can to opt for steamed or stewed - this will make sure you are getting all the good and none of the bad.
Also – don’t forget, April marks the beginning of a new quarter, so log your food for 7 consecutive days to earn yourself 1200 AIA Vitality points! I mean – why wouldn’t you?
