With mental health impacting many Australians, AIA Australia has put in place services that clients can access. See how our Rehabilitation team helped a client through a difficult period.
Rehabilitation service
One of AIAA’s key services is providing clients access to our Rehabilitation team. It’s not just about getting back to work; it’s about getting back to life.
AIA Australia can offer clients access to one of the largest and most experienced rehabilitation teams within the life insurance industry.

A rehabilitation program has two outcomes that a client can benefit from. These include:
- Return to wellbeing - A return to wellbeing involves the physical or mental wellbeing of a client with the purpose of getting them back to better health so they can re-engage in life.
- Return to work (RTW) - Aims to assist a client to get back to work. In addition to tailored wellness and work readiness services, RTW can include retraining, re-skilling, business coaching and more.
Case study: Rehabilitation and mental health
We know that mental health conditions continue to impact many Australians’ lives. Through our Rehabilitation service, clients have access to RESTORE™ which can support clients with anxiety and depression. See how RESTORE™ helped our client, William*.
William, a 40-year-old Bank Manager ceased work as had suffered the sudden loss of his sister due to a tragic accident and began to experience significant mental health symptoms including anxiety and depression and agoraphobia.
During the initial conversation with our AIA Rehabilitation Consultant, William expressed that he was very nervous about engaging with Rehab services and could not contemplate returning to work at that time. William agreed to participate in our RESTORE™ wellness program and a referral was made to one of our specialist mental health providers. RESTORE ™ focusses on improving mental wellbeing and is tailored to each individual’s needs. William responded very well and within three months, he was keen to engage in vocational assistance to look at alternative career options.
The career option identified was Mortgage broking and AIA funded a Cert IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking. William completed this course within three months and secured a new job within two months working as a Mortgage Broker. As William found working for an employer challenging, he decided to leave and start up his own business. Our AIA Rehabilitation Consultant offered William assistance through one of our experienced Business Coaches. He made great progress working with the Business Coach and within a very short period of time, his income was exceeding his pre-disability income. The Business Coach continued to support William over the next few months to ensure he had a sustainable business model. William was very grateful for the assistance provided, enabling him to turn his life around and live a healthy, happier life.
