October is National Mental Health Month, a month that raises awareness and aims to promote better mental health.
While the majority of Australian’s have good mental health, it’s estimated that 20% of Australians reported that they had a mental or behavioural condition through July 2017 to June 2018 . Furthermore, an increase had been reported in comparison to the three years prior during 2014 to 2015 where 17.5% of Australians had a mental or behavioural condition .
When we look at AIA Australia’s (AIAA) claims, we see mental health second amongst our top claimable events under income protection for both females and males. When we consider Total and Permanent Disablement, mental health tops claimable events for females and is fifth on the list for males.
