As a company that protects the lives of more than four million Australians, we’re committed to helping people when they need it most. One group of people doing it particularly tough at the moment are Aussie farmers, who are experiencing one of the worst droughts in recent years.
We know that at times like this every little bit helps, which is why we have decided to join likeminded insurers to help our farmers by waiving their premiums for six months.
Any farmer that already hold a policy with AIA prior to the 1st of October, 2018 and qualifies for the Federal Government’s Farm Household Allowance with regions that are extremely drought affected (QLD and NSW) is eligible to have their AIA premiums waived for six months. For more information on the Farm Household Allowance, you and/or your clients can contact the Farmer Assistance Hotline.
If you have farming clients who you think may be eligible, please extend this offer to them, and ask them to email their formal Farm Household Allowance approval documents to au.droughtrelief@aia.com by 31 December 2018. Alternatively you can email the approval on behalf of your clients. Once we receive this we will automatically waive their premiums for all policies for six months (based on their premium at the time the waiver is applied).
While every bit of financial help is needed, it’s just the tip of the iceberg of the challenges many farmers and their families are facing. The pressures farmers are dealing with may also lead to depression and anxiety.
Even just a simple ‘are you OK?’ when you contact your clients could help make a difference, however there are additional resources and support which can also help. AIA is a proud supporter of the Black Dog Institute, which works to understand, prevent and treat mental illness, and may be a good place to refer your clients to contact if you feel they need that extra support. You can find out more, and contact the Black Dog Institute at blackdoginstitute.org.au.
If you have any questions please contact your CDM or CDA.
