AIA Australia’s First Nations Commitments

We have long had a strong community focus however, our community work to date has not focused on reconciliation or First Nations peoples. We’re changing that.

Our vision for reconciliation

 We’re here to champion healthier, longer, better lives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Past
Building an understanding and awareness across the AIA family of Australia’s historic, cultural and systemic issues.
Present
Focusing on health promotion and prevention within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Future
Being an ally, amplifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and issues, forming strong long-term partnerships, & taking our stakeholders on the journey with us.
In 2026, AIA Australia’s commitments to First Nations communities and customers are as follows:
 
  1. Seek to partner with an external organisation to launch a First Nations internship program
  2. Establish an external partnership to collaborate on a project focused on health promotion and prevention, and/or partner with a First Nations not-for-profit organisation working in the community
  3. Drive industry work with life and health insurers, aimed at collaborating on areas of common interest and amplifying our collective impact
  4. Work with partners, industry and external experts on better identifying and supporting First Nations customers
  5. Raise staff awareness of First Nations culture and dates of significance via events, speaking engagements and learning opportunities
