About Cancer Council

Cancer Council Victoria conducts and supports cancer research and helps save lives by promoting screening, early detection, and immunisation.
 
Cancer Council Australia is the nation’s leading cancer charity, working with its eight state and territory members to support cancer research, prevent and control cancer and provide information and support for people affected by cancer. 

The challenge we face

Cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia. 
 
  • Estimates indicate nearly 170,000 new cancer cases and over 53,000 deaths will be officially recorded for 20251.
  • At current rates, it is expected that 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 851.
Finding cancer early offers the best chance of treating it.
 
  • The low uptake of cancer screening programs is an enduring public health challenge in Australia. Some programs have a conversion rate as little as 40 or 50% of those invited to participate2.
  • The number of cancer cases are estimated to increase as our population grows and ages, but survival rates will improve as we get better at early detection and treatment of cancer3.

An AIA Embrace partnership

To help Australians achieve better cancer outcomes, AIA Australia has partnered with Cancer Council Victoria to develop a preventative health tool within the AIA Embrace ecosystem that encourages participation in cancer screening and early detection programs, complementing AIA's cancer rehabilitation services.
 
Further, Cancer Council Australia is an Active Benefits donation partner for AIA’s Vitality Program. Vitality members can convert reward points into financial contributions to support cancer organisations in all States and Territories across Australia to reduce the impact and prevalence of cancer and cancer-related conditions.
