Everyone who has ever run marathon has a starting line: the defining moment where—against our comfort zone—we do the thing that scares us. Mine came at Uni when a friend declared she had signed up to a 21km race and asked if I wanted to join. As someone who didn’t grow up sporty, my gut reaction was: N.O. But for whatever reason, a thought told me to push past my initial gut fear and give it a go.
Decades on, hundreds of KMs behind me and multiple ultra marathon records later; here’s everything I wish I knew before I started.
