Find out from one of our Platinum members how they climbed to 30,000 points and how it gave their health a boost too.
This month, we caught up with Merike Harvey from Wollongong NSW. Having joined AIA Vitality in August of last year, Merike’s been working her way up to Platinum status ever since. Here’s how she did it.
Buying a Fitbit and being able to easily count my steps has helped me to see how my fitness is moving along. I’ve also really committed to doing the five days a week of continuous exercise.
My job is very physical, so I’ve usually already done between 10,000 and 12,500 steps by lunch time. 12,500 is my daily target, so anything I manage to do on top of that is a bonus.
I think it’s good for physical and mental wellbeing. Exercising helps me to maintain my weight and a healthy immune system, but it also releases really good endorphins, which make me feel great afterwards.
Another reason is my dog, who can’t run as much in her old age, so it’s a good way to keep her active, too.
Whenever I feel hungry I grab a handful of raw almonds. It stops me reaching for the chocolate or biscuit tin!
Setting goals is a good motivator to help you stay on track – even if it means pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to get there.
