Having good physical and mental health is incredibly important to me. I’ve dedicated my career to being a dietitian – which means maintaining a healthy lifestyle. To ensure I’m on the right track, I use AIA Vitality’s health checks and self-assessments to track my progress towards the goals I’ve set myself.
As a dietitian, Marika Day’s focus is often on the health of others. Here, she shares how AIA Vitality helps her to check in with her own wellbeing.
Checking in with AIA vitality
AIA Vitality offers a range of health checks and self-assessments. These are a mix of in-app surveys and a physical check-up which can be done at a participating pharmacy – they’re generally quick and simple to do.
I particularly like the self-assessments as they’re a great way to bring awareness to the habits you may not necessarily give much thought to – like your mental health or diet. They’re easy to do, but they can reveal a lot.
One of the first assessments I did was finding my AIA Vitality Age, which is a snapshot of your wellbeing compared to your actual age (you can find your own with the AIA Vitality Age Calculator). Thankfully, mine matched my real age, which means my lifestyle is on track with my health goals.
Healthy mind, healthy body
These self-assessments all earn me AIA Vitality Points – which unlock benefits and rewards (like discounts and shopping vouchers). Aside from the assessments, I earn the majority of my points through exercise, which I log with a fitness tracker that I’ve linked to my AIA Vitality app.
My main fitness goals are hitting my steps every day and visiting Fitness First to work out around four times a week (plus, I get discounts on my gym membership). Because my AIA Vitality account is linked with Fitness First, I get points for my gym visits. There are also other gym partners available.
AIA Vitality encourages mindfulness practice, too. I connect Headspace to my iPhone’s Health app, so I can earn points for mindfulness meditation (though you can link several different apps). I try to meditate most days – when life doesn’t get in the way.
AIA vitality lets me give back
There are different levels of rewards with AIA Vitality. One is a weekly $5 Active Benefit, which you get if you hit your points target for the week. I usually donate those to The Black Dog Institute or The Butterfly Foundation – but you can use them for things like Uber Eats or Woolworths, too.
As for my other benefits, the discounts on endota spa e-Gift cards are my favourite – I get 50 per cent off. I’m also a big fan of the Virgin Flight Benefit. I’m able to get 50 per cent cashback on ticket costs, which is incredible. When I get Shopping Rewards (which you get for certain points milestones), I claim gift cards – I bought a nice blender with one recently.
AIA Vitality has definitely kept me more accountable to my health and wellbeing goals. I’m getting rewarded for continually keeping active and living a healthy lifestyle, so it helps me stay motivated too.
