APIP is an affinity group formed to enable Australian pilots to benefit from the specialist TopCover aircrew insurance policy. The scheme was introduced by AIPA in 2003. All members of the APIP scheme are automatically insured for the Group minimum cover of $1,000 per month of income protection, and can then apply for additional benefits up to the scheme limits of $15,000 per month, plus $500,000 personal accident cover, plus $80,000 of critical illness benefit.
TopCover is an ‘own occupation’ Income Protection scheme that is only available to professional airline pilots. It is the only specialist scheme that is designed uniquely for pilots and should not be confused with other insurance products that appear to offer similar benefits.
Please ensure you take up (or seek) independent advice. TopCover is not available through a broker or financial advisor but only directly from the insurer, saving you any intermediary fees.
TopCover is not loss of licence insurance and is paid in addition to any lump sum you receive from the QANTAS scheme. TopCover is reserved for current full-time employees of Qantas Airways Limited or its wholly-owned subsidiaries and is available to all AIPA members.
A number of AIPA members have received benefits paid through the APIP TopCover scheme over the years. Unfortunately, claims do occur and when they do, members can be certain the TopCover policy will respond to their unique needs.
