About the Australasian Menopause Society

The Australasian Menopause Society (AMS) is a collaboration of doctors and other healthcare professionals who have a special interest in women’s health in midlife and menopause, and champion the promotion of healthy ageing.

Two million Australians have recently gone through menopause, while around 80,000 move into the postmenopausal stage every year. However, menopause is often misdiagnosed as predominately mental health conditions, resulting in the inadequate management of symptoms.

A person* lives around one third of their lives after menopause, so optimising their physical and mental health during this period is very important.

The challenge we face

  • The highest suicide rate for women is in the 45 to 49 age range1
  • After menopause, women are more vulnerable to chronic diseases such as osteoporosis and heart disease2
  • 26.8% of women retire earlier than planned, and before 553
  • Women between the ages of 45-55 are twice as likely to be on claim for depression and anxiety due to poor diagnosis and the health impacts of menopause4.
Our partnership
AIA and AMS provide evidence-based education to our customers and partners about the symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause, in addition to helping you get the right support to age well. Together, we work with Employers to provide educational material for employees affected by menopause to find the right support.

Our collaboration promotes awareness of menopause as an essential transitional stage in life and highlights that many people will experience varying symptoms that must be properly diagnosed to support healthy ageing.
