Eating (or food) habits refer to why and how people eat, which foods they eat, with whom they eat and the ways they obtain, store, use and discard food. The amount and types of food each person needs varies depending on factors like gender, age, how active they are and if they have health conditions.
In general, healthy eating habits include consuming a variety of foods from all food groups:
Grain (cereal) foods mostly wholegrain and/or high cereal fibrevarieties
Vegetables and legumes/beans
Fruit
Lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds and legumes/beans
Milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or alternatives, mostly reduced fat. In addition, small amounts of healthy fats and foods high in sugar, salt or fat and alcohol) can be occasionally included. Alcohol can also be occasionally included in small amounts.
