While research in Australia is continuing to emerge, The Medical Journal of Australia reports 20% of people who become infected with COVID-19 will require hospitalisation and 15% will develop pneumonia. Some people will then develop chronic lung disease.
To ensure our customers are in the best position to manage their lung health, AIAA has developed an industry first: Breathe Well. This tele-health coaching program will be available to all AIAA customers who are already on an Income Protection (IP) claim and suffering from a lung disease.
The program, a tele-health service that will be delivered via exercise physiologists, consists of the following components tailored to their condition:
AIAA will identify customers who require formal rehabilitation programs and arrange case conferencing for them with a Rehabilitation Consultant. For those with lung disease, knowing how to manage their condition will be critical to ensuring they don’t do unnecessary further damage. It’s one more way we’re seeking to be there for our customers when they need it most.
“Living with a chronic lung disease and breathlessness from it can be exhausting. I thought exercise would just make it worse, but getting access to education on the benefits of the right types of exercise for me and the latest breathing techniques has helped me so much, I’m less breathless than I’ve ever been…. and just a little bit fitter.”
