Our Journey

AIA Australia is part of the AIA Group, the largest independent publicly listed pan-Asian life insurance group – with a presence in 18 markets across the Asia-Pacific region. Established in 1919, AIA has been serving millions of people and generations of families all around the Asia-Pacific region for over a century. In 1972, the first Australian office was established in Melbourne on St Kilda Road. Since then we have grown significantly. Today we have offices across the country and our team of committed and passionate people assist more than 3.8 million Australians with their life and health insurance needs. A lot of our success is a testament to our strong partnering philosophy and capability, quality product suite and our emerging proposition of life, health and wellbeing.

Here’s our story so far.

1972 - 1999

Established the first Australian office in Melbourne

Expanded our footprint to Perth, followed by Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney offices.

AIA Australia launched Priority Life and Priority Protection to the multi-agent and broker market.

Launched Woman’s SmartCover, a breast cancer product to cater specifically for women. The first in the Australian market.

2014 - 2018

Became a founding member of the Shared Value Project, the peak body for advancing the adoption of shared value in the Asia Pacific.

Launched AIA Vitality, a science-backed wellness program that helps people get healthier by rewarding healthy choices.

Launched RESTORE, a voluntary wellness and work readiness programme that looks beyond treatment.

AIA Australia held the first AIA Vitality 4490 Summit. The event brings together industry stakeholders to discuss ways to collaborate and find innovative solutions to drive better health outcomes.

Launched a new kind of health insurance that incorporates AIA Vitality.

Launched Claims on Wheels. An industry-first free service, providing door-to-door support to customers in the face of significant health events.

2019 - 2021

A significant milestone in AIA Australia history as we welcomed our CommInsure colleagues to the AIA family upon the successful execution of the Joint Cooperation Agreement with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Launched AIA Health Insurance.

Commenced partnerships with North Melbourne, St Kilda, Essendon and Hawthorn Football Clubs.

CommInsure Life was integrated into AIA Australia.

Introduced the industry leading, sustainable Income Protection Product IP CORE.

Sponsored the Wellbeing of Australian Financial Advisers research, a first-of-its-kind study conducted by Dr Adam Fraser and Dr John Molineux.

Commenced partnerships with Collingwood AFLW and Freemantle Football Clubs.

Released the 5590+ report, which forms the basis of AIA Australia’s health and wellbeing framework.

Hosted roundtable event with 16 health experts to discuss the state of health and wellbeing in Australia and global non-communicable disease prevalence.

Launched AIA Financial Wellbeing, a new financial advice business.

AIA Australia and CancerAid publish leading research which demonstrates that Cancer Patients Likelihood of Returning to Work Improves by 73% After Taking Part in Innovative Digital Coaching Solution Trial.

Launched in December 2021, AIA Financial Wellbeing offers affordable, reliable and straightforward solutions for life and health insurance, superannuation, and wealth advice needs. We consider your life, health and financial goals to help you make confident financial decisions today (big or small) so you can feel confident you’re on the right track.
AIA Health Insurance is our new suite of health insurance products. Launched in March 2020, AIA Health Insurance offers affordable private health insurance options, focused on customer’s unique situations and needs.
In November 2019 we welcomed CommInsure Life into the AIA family, marking the beginning of a 25-year strategic distribution agreement with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). This agreement, alongside the support of all our valued corporate partners, financial advisers and affinity partners, will help us deliver on our promise to help millions more Australians live healthier, longer, better lives.
