Reframing our language can change our entire perspective on a situation. The subtle difference can help you not only overcome the feeling of being overwhelmed, but also help you prioritise tasks, better allocate energy credits, and gain control of things that matter most to you.
Instead of saying, ‘I don’t have time to review your report’, say, ‘Your report isn’t my priority’.
Instead of, ‘I don’t have time to workout/go for a run/get to that yoga class,’ try, ‘My health isn’t a priority to me’.
Instead of, ‘I don’t have time to spend with my family’, try, ‘My family isn’t a priority for me’.
Do any of these sit well with you? How quickly does your perspective shift when looking at challenges in a new light?
How we spend our time and energy is our choice. If we’re not comfortable with how we are allocating them, it is up to us as individuals to make changes that not only drive us forward but also give us the energy to do those things we enjoy and are a priority.
So, what’s your current priority?
